The tables have turned for Aniston

It seems like Jennifer Aniston is dealing with a lot of negative attention for the first time in her life.  Since her split with Brad Pitt in 2005, Jen has not only been America's Sweetheart but America's Martyr...until now.

In recent weeks (or should I say months) Jennifer Aniston has gotten a little bit of bad press over her new film The SwitchBill O'Reilly criticized her for threatening family values because the film depicts her as a single woman looking to artificially inseminate herself and begin a family on her own.  To add insult to injury, Aniston has been caught in the middle of a credit card scam while simultaneously coming under fire for using the word "retard" on Regis and Kelly.  Wow, some girls just can't catch a break!

Yet, it wasn't long ago that Aniston was the sweet, down-to-earth actress that was wronged by her bad boy husband.  The world was shocked when she and husband Brad Pitt divorced and fans were enraged to discover his new love Angelina Jolie.  Pitt was portrayed as the stolen married man and Jolie as a homewrecker.  Aniston quickly became the poster child for divorced women in America.

But those who expected her to bounce back with a new man, and maybe a small family, were greatly disappointed.  Her new lifestyle has consisted of flings with such high profile faces as John Mayer and Vince Vaughan.  She continues to respond to questions about her future with an insincere "Of course I'd love to have a family" while pictures of her being fondled by Bounty Hunter co-star Gerard Butler circulated the internet.

Meanwhile, Brangelina's "affair" has turned into a loving family with kids as they keep a relatively low profile and pursue a number of philanthropic projects.  The tables certainly have turned in this strange love triangle.

So why is Aniston suddenly a staple of the gossip column?  Could it be possible that she's deliberately seeking attention?  After all, her last few films haven't really done all that great.  Could this possibly be her last ditch effort to remain relevant?
