March may go out like a lamb; but there is nothing ovine about the Switchboard Music Festival, scheduled this year for the penultimate Sunday of the month. This event is the annual marathon of eight hours of music, running non-stop from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. This will be the sixth year of an event that showcases some of the most adventurous and boundary-pushing local composers and musicians.
Those unfamiliar with this event need to recognize that “non-stop” is taken literally. Members of the audience are free to come and go as they please. Both food and drink will be available for purchase.
Here is the schedule of who will be performing when:
2:00 Rob Reich Quintet
2:50 Areon Flutes
3:15 Addleds
3:40 Ava Mendoza’s UNNATURAL WAYS
4:20 futureCities
4:45 Michael Lowenstern
5:25 Ignition Duo
6:00 Oakland Active Orchestra
6:40 Sqwonk plays Moe! Staiano
6:55 ZOFO + Sqwonk
7:30 Billygoat
8:15 Build
9:00 Subharmonic
As was the case last year, the Switchboard Music Festival will take place at the Brava Theater, whose acoustics are particularly conducive for the unorthodox spirit of the event. The address is 2781 24th Street, between York and Hampshire. The Festival begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, and will continue (non-stop) until 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 with a $5 discount for advance purchase. This may take place through the secure Vendini Web page for the Brava Theater, and the tickets will be held at the box office. Further information may be found at the Festival Web site.
