"The Sweeter Side of Life" is a Hallmark Channel Original Movie that premiered on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. The film stars Kathryn Morris, James Best, Alastair MacKenzie, Steve Varnom and Sam Douglas.
Kathryn Morris (“Cold Case”) stars as Desiree Harper, a Manhattan housewife and New York socialite whose wealthy husband dumps her and leaves her penniless. Her husband, Wade Harper (Stephen Hogan) is a successful surgeon who has been having an affair with his acupuncturist.
When her socialite friends turn their backs on her after she is kicked out of her penthouse, Desiree ends up staying with her father Paddy Kerrigan (James Best, "The Dukes of Hazzard”), who owns a struggling bakery in New Jersey.
Desiree wants nothing more than to get back to Manhattan and the dream life that she had with her husband, but she starts to make new friends in the close knit community her father lives in. Steve Varnom ("Broadside") plays Dino, who works at the bakery.
While delivering baguettes of bread in a borrowed Cooper, Desiree meets Benny (Alastair MacKenzie, “Monarch of the Glen”), a wealthy man who owns a villa in the middle of New Jersey. Benny becomes a love interest, but at first Desiree resists his advances.
Desiree rediscovers her love of baking and adjusts to her new life. When a neighbor points out that her father's business is struggling, she puts her business degree to work to save her father’s shop.
With updating and some new marketing ideas, the bakery's business starts to boom and they have the opportunity to franchise the business. Desiree is faced with the opportunity to make a lot of money, but it would mean shutting her father out of the family business.
Upon her arrival home from the business meeting, her husband Wade is waiting for her, a bouquet in hand, asking for a second chance. Will Desiree go back to her old life, or will she find a sweeter life?
