Bad joke out of the way, we can concentrate on how good they actually are. The band has been around for a while, but the current lineup is fairly new. The present band consists of Rocky Buldo on bass, David Pippin on guitar, Andre on drums, Doctor Don Rice on keyboards, Dr Poppa (Hans Skott-Myrhe) on sax and vocals and Hurricane Red (Kathy Skott-Myrhe) on vocals. While it took them a moment to get organized and on the same track, from the very first song they were great!

As usual I got caught up in the music and the moment and did not write down the playlist but I can tell you that a few of the highlights were Dr Poppa and Hurricane Red's sassy performance of "Something You Got," Hurricane Red's poignant take on "Angel From Montgomery," and, especially, the rousing "spiritual" "Moving On Up," about "overcoming personal adversity," featuring David Pippin and rip-roaring through everyone's favorite TV theme song. That one alone was worth the trip, and it was only one of a whole bunch of enjoyable performances.

Deb Pruitt was there not only to support her man (Rocky Buldo) but to host a Wang-Dang Doodle Leo/Virgo Birthday party and we were participating (my husband Ken is a Virgo.) So the occasion was enhanced by Mardi Gras beads and glow wands and those of who were invited ahead of time and those people who had no idea that they were coming to a party until they got there and just showed up to see the band all had a riotously good time.

The Sweet and Salty Blues Band are so much fun and gave a delightful performance at Darwin's. Thanks is due to Darwin's for once again presenting prime entertainment and to the Sweet and Salty Blues Band for delivering a marvelously flavorful musical feast for us all!
