Today, May 26, 2011, The Supreme Court of the United States has issued a ruling that the Legal Arizona Workers Act is constitutional and does not infringe on any of the federal immigration laws or enforcement. As soon as the ruling was issued, the blogosphere was swamped with commentary.
Some bloggers are telling us SCOTUS found the current administration’s belief, that the law was in conflict with federal law, was not true. The law fines and even closes businesses for hiring workers who are in the country illegally.
Huffpost Politics reports that some people believe this will result in a flood of similar laws in other states. They also say that this was a narrowly-written decision that does not make a “sweeping endorsement of states' rights” for immigration law enforcement.
Conservatives 4 Congress tells us that Chief Justice John Roberts said “…it requires Arizona employers to use the federal government's own system for checking employee status.”
Dan Spencer of RedState comments that this ruling is a big victory in starting to reduce the flow of illegal aliens coming across our southern border.
Other bloggers reveal that Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce predicted the results of the ruling when he said “I'm very confident we'll win a 5-4…. States have never been pre-empted from enforcing federal law.”
