Today despite the apocalyptic predictions the sun rose without assistance from the federal government. As you look out your window you will not see plumes of smoke from planes impacting with the ground. Electricity is still on as well as water, telephone and surprisingly the internet. How can this be? Today is the end of the world as we know it, sequester day.
We have been bombarded with predictions of the collapse of the United States if we slowed the growth of government. Where is the traffic coming from when just yesterday Maxine Waters clearly stated 170 million jobs would be lost? Since only 155 million people are actually working per the Department of labor some people must be double laid off.( unless the numbers don’t included government “workers”) Why are school buses still running their routes don’t they know all the teachers have been laid off? Could they be bussing the hordes of hungry seniors that no longer have meals on wheels to breakfast?
Some bad things have come to pass this day. The hundreds of illegal aliens (undocumented voters) are roaming our streets now because of sequester. Or at least that is what we have been told. No one seems to know who authorized it but clearly we do know it was because of sequester. The latest news from the White House claims it was a G1 employee in environmental services at the department of Homeland security that authorized the release. Even worse is the IRS did not have to close its doors and we must still file for our fair share this April. All of our politicians who created this mess did not have their pay raises cut so they will continue to assault our common sense and our paychecks.
Every dark cloud has its silver lining and so does sequester day. It has let those of us paying attention know how little the federal government actually helps us rather than hinder. It lets those in the federal employ know what it feels like to live without raises as everything else continues to climb. It lets our politicians know at least with sequester we wouldn’t be fooled again. Unfortunately it also lets us know how difficult it will be to make hard choices when it comes to spending and not just a small trim in growth.
For now at least Obamaphone users can continue to arrange flash mobs, EBT users can continue to buy the choicest cuts of meat and between interviews federal employees will still be enjoying benefits most of us can only dream of.
