Northwestern’s Imagine U Family Series presents “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley” based on Jeff Brown’s book series about a boy whose world is changed overnight after wishing on a star. “There’s a great song called ‘Wish I Were,’” states the play’s director David Catlin, Lookingglass Theatre Company ensemble member and Northwestern faculty member. “Just about everybody can identify with Stanley’s desire to do something special.”
Performances are Friday, Feb. 15; 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 16; and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 17 at Mussetter-Struble Theater on 1949 Campus Drive in Evanston. Also taking place on Northwestern University’s Evanston campus is Kids Fare featuring “Air Raid” on 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16. The program shows children (aged 3 to 8) and their families and friends how to make music from a blade of grass, kazoo, harmonica, slide whistle, trombone, garden hose, flute, seashell, oboe reed, bassoon, horn, pan pipe, puckered lips, clarinet, tuba, and more. Tickets are $6 for the general public and $4 for children.
A university event for grownups is Small Jazz Ensembles, “Music from ’Round Midnight,” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16. Conductor Victor Goines leads Northwestern jazz students as they perform their interpretations of music from the iconic 1986 film starring tenor saxophone legend Dexter Gordon. Tickets are $6 for the general public and $4 for students.
