If you could pick one designer that epitomizes the face of New York fashion, spreading trends meant to always be followed, it would have to be Dennis Basso. With a dynamic personality and infinite wisdom of all things style and design, Basso continues to make headlines around the world.
Dennis Basso collections are for women who want to step out of the ordinary. Celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Nicole Kidman and Brooke Shields can't seem to get enough of his fashions.
Most recently this past September, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York was proud to present, in Lincoln Center, one of Basso's most magical collections yet with looks for Spring/Summer 2014. Silk had staying power on the runway. Like an artist with a brush and a canvas before him, Dennis Basso knows how to bring the neutral colors of black and white alive on the runway. He knows how to make fur work for a woman in wondrous ways. There is a decadence about his gowns that is difficult to replicate. Brigitte Bardot and Hollywood glamour, along with a belief that the clothes make the woman, is the formula for success in this collection. There were floral patterns and floral appliques exciting us with the promise that spring brings with it a revival of freshness. It was interesting to see how he brought memorable fashion trends of eras past into the future but yet stuck steadfast to femininity. Outerwear, for which Basso is known so well for, was not only meant to keep the body warm, but compliment the clothes beneath it as well.
For Basso, his work never seems to be complete. He is always turning the pages of life ready for the next challenge. In October, The Daily Front Row was ecstatic to be able to interview Basso about his exclusive collections of bridal designs for Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City. For three years, he has been designing bridal collections with Ava Gardner, Jane Russell and Lana Turner in mind. We've even seen a red wedding dress inspired by 'Goddesses of Hollywood' such as Rita Hayworth. Brides resemble princesses in gowns of distinction on their very exciting day of adventure, joy and happiness.
On November 21, 2013, Dennis Basso will be the guest in attendance at Fashion Group International Inc.'s 'The Tastemakers'. He will take part in an informative conversation with Pamela Fiori at Le Cirque, The Stella Room in New York City at 151 E. 58th Street at 12:45 p.m.. It is sure to be enlightening and a great way to understand what drives the designer and keeps him one step ahead.
Dennis Basso continues to exceed all expectations. His fashions have been seen on the pages of major fashion publications. He has opened stores in all parts of the world and continues to receive international acclaim. His designs have been worn on screen by Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones in “Chicago,” by Meryl Streep in “The Devil Wears Prada” and by Nicole Kidman and Penelope Cruz in “Nine” and will be worn by Charlize Theron in the upcoming movie “Snow White & The Huntsman”.
Philanthropy is one of Basso's top priorities as he is a major supporter of Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, CT, the American Cancer Society, the G&P Foundation, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New Yorkers for Children, and the Alzheimer’s Association, which gave him their Humanitarian Man of the Year Award in 2005. Besides theses charities, he has supported numerous organizations that are funded for the arts and medical research. He currently sits on the Board of the Children's Hearing Institute and Boy's Towns of Italy Foundation.
Humanitarian, dedicated designer, influential trend-setter and warm and creative individual are all qualities that make Dennis Basso such a recognized individual of our era and one that all his peers look up to.
