The strongest 3 aftershocks to hit Chile after massive earthquake strike Thursday. A massive 7.2-magnitude earthquake hit Chile Thursday at 11:39 am, followed by a 6.9-magnitude aftershock 16 minutes later, and a third aftershock 27 minutes later with a 6.0-magnitude. These were the strongest aftershocks to shake Chile since the massive February 27th earthquake that killed hundreds of people.

Chile was just about to swear in a new President, Sebastian Pinera as the first earthquake hit. The first earthquake hit near Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins near the coast. The government continued with swearing in ceremony.

So far, no damage or injuries have been reported and no Tsunami reports have been released for the surrounding areas, including Hawaii.

Rolando Santos, the senior VP and GM of CNN Chile, said that they felt the first earthquake. "I can tell you within our newsroom in Santiago, which is state of the art in terms of seismic construction, it shook for more than 45 seconds," he said.

CNN reported that Santos told staffers to get under desks and that people burst into tears because even though they are used to the aftershocks, but "there was no question this one got everyone's attention," he said.

Hawaii residents were awakened at 6 am Saturday morning with a loud siren blast to warn residents who were unaware of a possible tsunami that may hit later this morning. For more on that story, click here.

After the massive earthquake, Kathy Banks, a resident of Salt Lake City has family living in the coastal areas of the big island of Hawaii and was worried. “This Tsunami appears as though it will be huge. I hope that they can get away from the coast as soon as possible. I spoke to my family briefly this morning and they were in line to get gasoline and were trying to get inland as soon as they can.”
