For the past three weeks Iowa bands have been competing for a shot at opening KAZR's LAZERfest 2014. On Monday at 5 p.m., the winner of the LAZERfest Battle of the Bands was announced live on LAZER's airwaves, and that honor goes to Des Moines thrash metal band Green Death. Green Death beat out other finalists Apathy Syndrome, Dead Horse Trauma, and Through the Darkness. KAZR is expected to announce the date, lineup, and location for this year's LAZERfest later this month.

In one other LAZER note, the station announced details on their annual Snoball event earlier today. Snoball 2014 will take place on March 28 at Wooly's in Des Moines' East Village. The 7:30 p.m. all ages event will feature performances by Des Moines bands Deadfront, Index Case, Marcato, and Superchief. Tickets for the show are $7 in advance and $10 at the door. They may be purchased at the Wooly's box office or online through Ticketfly.

This afternoon The Straits, made up of two former members of Dire Straits (Alan Clark and Chris White) and five other hand-picked musicians, announced a concert at Terrible's Lakeside Casino in Osceola on March 8 at 8 p.m. The band will be performing Dire Straits smashes like "Sultans of Swing", "Money for Nothing", "Walk of Life", "So Far Away", and "Heavy Fuel". Tickets for the show range from $10 to $30, and they will go on sale Thursday, February 13 at 9 a.m. through Red Truck Tickets. This is a 21-and-older show.

Also announced this afternoon, singer/songwriter Robert Earl Keen will play Hoyt Sherman Place on Thursday, March 6 at 8 p.m. Keen has recorded 18 albums of his own and has written songs for George Strait, Lyle Lovett, The Highwaymen, the Dixie Chicks, and others. Tickets for the show will range from $25.50 to $40, and they will go on sale on Friday, February 14 at noon through the Hoyt Sherman box office and all Ticketmaster locations. This will be an all ages show.

If you have not gotten your tickets yet for the March 11 Crosby, Stills, and Nash concert at Wells Fargo Arena, you won't be going. The show is sold out. However, you could still get to meet Graham Nash. Nash will be doing a book signing on March 10 at 6 p.m. at the West Des Moines Barnes and Noble for his book Wild Tales: A Rock & Roll Life. The signing will be free.
