"The Stepfather" synopsis/plot
When a young man returns home to his family from military school, he sees that his single mother is dating a new man, whom she eventually marries. But, things take a turn for the worst, after the young man's new stepfather shows his violent side. When he digs into his stepfather's background, he finds that his stepfather looks exactly like the country's "most wanted" man.
According to the Movies Based On True Stories Archives, both movies were inspired by the case of a man who killed his whole family. Court records show that John List killed his entire family in 1971 and later changed his identity. He was a wanted man for almost two decades before an "America's Most Wanted" show exposed his identity.
