Many stars are reluctant to do actual crowd funding. There is a fine line between looking needy and promoting something that has personal value. You don’t see a lot of stars using crowd funding yet. It’s still a new area. Perception is everything for people in the limelight. It is always important to protect your reputation.
However here are two crowd-funding projects that are embracing the stars:
Veronica Mars Movie
Strickler – co-founder of Kickstarter acknowledged that the Veronica Mars movie is the latest sensation to take Kickstarter by storm. "We're excited that people responded to that project, and it'll be interesting to see how it works out," he said. In a little over 4 hours this project topped $1million dollars. With over 60 films being funded on Kickstarter that actually got into theatres, this looks like a sure bet. Clearly the Veronica Mars fans are ready for it. They have been asking for a movie for years.
Gotye joins SLAM crowd funding campaign
In Australia, Wally de Backer (Gotye) has joined the Save Live Australian Music in a crowd funding campaign. He is offering a recorded song- Quasimodo’s Dream for people who pledge at least $10 to SLAM. Some other rewards include having a beer with Front End Loader at Young Henry’s Brewhouse in Sydney and having a bass mentoring session with Scott Owen of Living End.
When the stars find something they are passionate about, then crowd funding will make sense for them.
