New Generation Fight Promotions (Rick Lopez, Sr.) presents ‘THE STAND’, Saturday night August 16, 2014, at the Crowne Plaza DIA Convention Complex, 15500 E. 40th Ave. (I-70 & Chambers) in Denver.
This event features three of Colorado’s young rising professional talent in Ricky Lopez (11-3, 4 KO’s), Donovan ‘Slick’ Estrella (5-0, 2 KO’s) and Damien ‘Sugar’ Vazquez (4-0, 3 KO’s) with Lopez and Vazquez the main and co-main event participants.
The now 27 years-old and 6 years pro Ricky Lopez looks to make Antoine Knight (3-9, 1 KO) his 3rd consecutive victim of 2014 after deciding to let his dad, Ricky Lopez, Sr., manage his career following a one fight year of 2013, in a scheduled for 6 rounds contest at 126 lbs.
Lopez suffered the 1st loss of his career back in July of 2010 right here in front of his hometown fans in a tough, hard fought middle decision bout to then undefeated as well, Derrick Wilson (10-6-2, 3 KO’s), at Softball Country.
The second year pro and 19 years-old Donovan ‘Slick’ Estrella has his hands full with Rasool Shakoor (3-12-1, 1 KO) who looks to hand Estrella his first loss in another scheduled for 6 rounder at 138 lbs.
Estrella posting impressive wins in his first 5 pro bouts, this being his fourth bout of 2014, proves this active and fast rising young boxer has no plans of letting any moss grown under his feet, the nickname ‘Slick’ nothing short of the truth.
Damien ‘Sugar’ Vasquez, now in his second year as a professional boxer (after turning pro at 16 years of age), is the the youngest pro boxer in the country.
Making his USA pro debut in front of his Denver fans after building that undefeated pro record by way of hard-nosed veterans in Mexico makes this homecoming indeed very special for Vazquez.
Recently signed by AG Promotions to a lucrative deal (the ‘AG’ familiar to Denver Broncos fans with San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates the head man of that organization) has Vazquez determined to soon become a World Champion.
Finding a willing opponent for the young southpaw Vazquez had been a real chore, not many willing to take on the youngster but Alexis Diaz (0-5-1) of Puerto Rico has decided to accept the challenge in a scheduled for 6 round bout at 111 lbs.
Highly decorated former amateur Santos Vasquez (1-2) decided he’d rather stay home than tangle with ‘Sugar’ in Denver after initially agreeing to the fight in what would have been an ‘interesting’ matchup.
AG Promotions as well as TEAM VAZQUEZ see a flyweight title bout sometime mid-late 2015 being a distinct probability.
The undercard includes Ronnie Austion (5-0, 3 KO’s) vs Cody Land (0-2-1) 6 rounds at 144 lbs., Cesar Holquin (10-4-1, 3 KO’s) vs Trenton Titsworth (6-18-2, 2 KO’s) 8 rounds at 147 lbs., Wesley Capper (6-0, 4 KO’s) vs Anthony Madden (1-3, 1 KO) 6 rounds at 168 lbs., David Escamilla (3-0, 1 KO) vs Antonio Solorzano (0-2) 4 rounds at 128 lbs. and Hilario Ramirez Medina (1-3) vs Fernando Serrano (0-2) 4 rounds at 138 lbs., rounding out a nice evening of professional boxing.
Lopez, Estrella and Vazquez are 3 highly decorated former amateur boxers from Colorado, each looking to show potential opponents they have every intention of doing whatever it takes to increase their star power in professional boxing.
