Fraternities and sororities will light up the Regal Theater for the Sprite Step Off, the self-proclaimed largest step tournament in history. The step competition will be on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m.
The
Sprite Step Off has a combined prize pool of $1.5 million in scholarships, and live performances by Ludacris and Wale. There will also be a McDonald’s Flavor Battle deejay competition with three local Chicago deejays.
“The
Sprite Step Off is the best step competition because it is truly the largest of its kind, and the
Greek step teams around the country are competing for scholarship money to the tune of $1.5 million,” said Tanya Ward, owner of
FoxBrownFox PR. “In a troubled economy, you can't beat that and these teams know it. They've been practicing for months to bring it. It’s a big party, and you just have to be there.”
The Regal Theater is located at 1645 E. 79th St., and doors open at 6 p.m.
The Regional Final Step Competition begins at 7 p.m., Wale performs at 7:30 p.m., and Ludacris performs at 9:30 p.m.
Participating teams will contribute 1.5 million community service hours to the
National Sprite Step Off Service Challenge (SSOSC), a collaboration between the National Pan-Hellenic Council and nonprofit organizations like the Boys & Girls Club of America and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Their community service encourages the youth to participate in higher education.
General admission tickets are $17, but if tickets are purchased from the
Sprite Step Off Web site with the promo code 36E2450AL, ticket purchasers will get $5 off admission.
