As Christmas 2013 draws near, people all over the world, especially in the U. S. from Los Angeles to New York and from the Northern States to the Southern States, are getting into the spirit of giving. The malls and shopping centers are becoming filled with shoppers who go into debt even though they know they shouldn’t; just to satisfy their insatiable need to give gifts to their loved-ones. Marketing and sales data show more earnings for retailers from Thanksgiving to Christmas than all the other combined sales in the previous ten months.
Why do you think people of all races, income levels and nationalities succumb to an overwhelming need to buy gifts every year on this specific holiday? Some may say marketing experts have conditioned people through mass media advertising. This thinking is partly true. On the other hand, could it be the spirit of giving actually comes from the fact that over 2000 years ago the greatest gift given to mankind was a baby named Jesus was born? Symbolically, three wise men followed the Star of David to bare gifts to baby Jesus who is the Savior of the World.
Our Heavenly Father is the Spirit of giving! He gave His Only Begotten Son so you and I may live eternally and not perish (John 3:16). As you go shopping don’t forget to pick up a gift for the one whose birthday is celebrated on Christmas- Jesus Christ! The best present you can give Him is your life and to tell someone else about the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus demonstrated the ultimate Spirit of Giving-He gave His life for those who rejected Him. There is no greater love (demonstrated) than a man who gives His life for His friend (John 15:13).
