The sound of war
Cassandra Strom

Once a month in Corpus Christi, a group of Christians join together to worship God, pray for the city and do spiritual warfare on behalf of the Body of Christ. These meetings are called the Burn 24-7. A sound is being released each month during these 24 hours of non-stop singing, music, prayer and worship.

We read in Exodus 32 that Joshua said, "There is the sound of war in the camp." The war that was going on couldn't be heard, because it was a spiritual battle.

When Moses came off the mountain after being with God, Joshua told him he heard the sound of war in the camp when he heard all the shouting,
' but Moses replied:
"It is not the sound of victory,
it is not the sound of defeat;
it is the sound of singing that I hear."' v.18
which was even more heartbreaking than war, because the children of Israel were reveling and rejoicing over Aaron's golden calf.

The chosen people of God were giving praise to and worshiping a false god, something made by man's hands. It was actually made by Aaron, who was a priest, a spiritual leader.

This same situation is echoed in our land today. Some of the most influential religious leaders are offering God's people a fake idol to put their trust in, and the people are rejoicing, bowing to it, worshiping it. The religious experience being promoted by many so-called "chistians" today consists largely of a hollow, meaningless Sunday morning hour or two where the people gather in their best clothes and get their serving-sized portion of Jesus.

This "Golden Calf Jesus" will never bring conviction for sin, for it is agreeable in every way to the sinful desires of man's heart. Remember, Moses threw down the tablets with the ten commandments on them at the foot of the mountain. He only had to see the party the Israelites were having with their cow and he was burning with anger!

Moses had been in the presence of the Lord being intimate with Him, and when He told Moses that the people had become corrupt Moses pleaded with Him to remember His promises and begged Him not to destroy them. " Then the LORD relented and did not bring on His people the disaster He had threatened." v.14

Today, those who have been in fellowship with God need to intercede for those among our people who are being led astray by false religion. We need to speak the promises of God over them when we are in His presence, reminding Him of His oath. When we are before the Lord, our position needs to be one of repentance on behalf of the people. We should be asking for mercy and seeking the Face of God, asking for our city and our nation to be restored. God will hear from Heaven and heal our land!

Every month a small group gathers to do that; to seek God's face, repent for the sins of the people of the city and worship Him in Spirit and in truth. In that place of worship with God, true warfare is done and although it is violent and it ripples into the past, present and future, it might sound like a simple song softly being sung at 3:00 a.m. or a drum being beat with bare hands. When the sound is released over the city, God responds to the cries of His people. He responds by pouring out His love and grace and mercy. He responds by repairing broken relationships and healing broken hearts. He so lovingly works through those prayers to change the hearts of the ones who are leading His people astray with the golden calves and turn their hearts back towards Him.
