FIRE opens their 5th season with 'The Sound of Music.'

This weekend, one of the world's most beloved musicals, The Sound of Music, kicks off the fifth season of Fountain Inn Repertory Experience (FIRE) at the Fountain Inn Civic Center.

Directed by Anita Sleeman, the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical is both familiar and timeless, providing a family-friendly experience packed with warmth, humor, and unforgettable songs. "My Favorite Things," Do-Re-Mi," "Climb Every Mountain" - we've all grown up with these songs, and as wonderful as the Julie Andrews movie version is, there's nothing like watching the story come to life on stage.

More details are in the press release:

Playing the role of Maria will be another one of Fountain Inn Arts Academy’s resident vocal teacher and MFA graduate of Peabody Conservatory Brittany Hogan’s varied roles with FIRE. She has portrayed Eva Peron in Evita, Mary Bailey, in A Wonderful Life and served as Musical Director for Dear Edwina Jr., and Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr. The stalwart Captain Von Trapp will be played by newcomer Robert Zielinski who works at GHS in Management Engineering. Robert is excited to be taking on this challenge and experience with FIRE. Raising the question, “how do you solve a problem like Maria?” in the role of the Mother Abbess will be Tina Batchelder, MMed from Ithaca College and Curriculum Coordinator for Middle School Music and teaches Music and at Christ Church Episcopal School. Tina most recently appeared as Trix in last year’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone. This production also features Leslie Sharff as Franz, Clint Walker as Max, Lindsay Thomason, Leslie Best-Weinrich, Allison Stoiser as Sisters Margetta, Berthe and Sophia, Laura Schroeder as Elsa Schraeder and Katrin Cape as Frau Schmidt.

Scenic Designer Clint Walker has created the familiar locales of Alpine meadows, the abbey and the Von Trapp estate. Bringing the unforgettable Rodgers and Hammerstein score to life will be Music Director Robert Lee, a MMed graduate from Mississippi College and current Music Teacher at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, while the Choreography will be provided by Francesca Genovese, principal dancer and choreographer of The Carolina Ballet Theatre. Evening performances for The Sound of Music are Friday and Saturday and begin at 7:30 PM. Matinee performances are Saturday, October 6 & Sundays at 3:00 PM.
