Recently Senator Harry Reid stated immigration was close to his heart and he will get a bill through the Senate in this congress on ABC "This Week" with George Stephanopoulos. The senate leader has seen the changes in the country since he was a kid in rural Nevada. In the school system today there are over 40% Hispanic children attending classes throughout Nevada so immigration reform needs to be addressed so those in the country illegally can have a chance to become citizens.
Discussing this issue with a local law office we believe we have the solution to this huge problem facing our nation. As we talked securing the border was a high priority. With a secure boarder we then can address the illegal immigration policies of this county. Here is the solution to our immigration problem made easy.
1. We as a nation offer a work card for those in the country illegally currently. They have the opportunity to continue to be a part of the workforce for a period of no longer than 5 years. If those who are in this country working and are a productive part of society earning a wage, paying their taxes and staying out of trouble they can stay and at some point receive the opportunity to take the test to become a citizen of the United States of America.
2) If at anytime they become a burden to the nation we will take their work permit away and deport them back to their home country. What this will do is remove those individuals from our country who come across the border just to become part of the entitlement society.
We will not let those who came here illegally receive food stamps, free housing, free medical, free tuition or any other free product offered currently unless the need is there. If they need assistance of any type they must contribute more to America then they take.
If after two years an individual with the work permit is receiving more handouts then contributing to the betterment of the nation they will receive a notification stating you may lose the work permit unless in the next year their economic stability improves and are on the road to becoming self sufficient.
This approach could work if both sides would vote on it. I asked if both sides would be on board because we know the Democrats depend on low income voters in need of most of these entitlements available to them now. My lawyer friend made the valid point that they are still illegal immigrants and can not legally vote so both parties should climb on board with the plan.
This solution is logical and will help to increase revenue to the treasury as more of the illegal immigrants will be able to work and pay taxes immediately once they fill out the application and receive the work card.
