Today in spite of “winning” the cold war the ideas we fought are now being taught in our schools, proposed in our governments and praised on our TV’s. Socialism has always been with us but it seems with the fall of the Soviet Union this system needed a healthier host to practice its ruinous ideas. Socialists are not so easy to identify, they don’t carry around little red books with important quotes from Marx. They often disguise themselves as progressives or fighters for social justice. They are often mislabeled as communists.

In order to help identify socialists a little education not currently received in our public school system is in order. First lesson is there has never been and probably never will be a communist government. Communism is a government without religion, leaders or any form of money. No one works for pay but everyone is provided for. Communism is the carrot to get people to accept socialism. Socialism is the method to break down the existing order in the name of social justice which always ends up hurting those at the bottom of the social scale and elevating those at the top who have taken charge.

Many countries in the world are called communist are really socialist by their own definition. Russia formally known as the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics), Socialist Republic of Vietnam, both Cuba and China identify themselves as socialist ruled by the communist party. North Korea though not self identified as such meets the common traits of socialist countries. Even Nazi Germany often labeled as far right was called National Socialist German Worker Party. The common traits among each is a majority of state-run industry, numerous government welfare programs , universal health care and a state run press.

This January a member of Socialist alternative party was sworn into the Seattle City council. ( Sawant ran on the socialist agenda of raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour, a millionaire’s tax, and rent control. She claims the millionaire tax would pay for “transit Justice” by eliminating transit fares. New York City elected self proclaimed socialist Kaiser Wilheim (Bill DeBlasio). Vermont has Senator Bernard Sanders is a self described democratic socialist. Others in our government are not so forthcoming with their socialist views. In the heady days of change in 2009 the Socialist Party of America newsletter released the names of seventy members of congress that are active members.(

So the question is what is the attraction of socialism, exactly who supports a system that eliminated millions and caused the USSR to crumble? That would be academia, trade unions, government workers and nonprofits. Each of these groups rewards are not based upon realizing a profit but on the individual’s contribution to the system. Whereas Communism is each according to his need socialism is each according to his contribution. Each supporter feels their part in helping advance socialism will guarantee them a seat at the big boys table.

In 1963 the socialists of the USSR stated 45 goals to the total takeover of the United States. ( It could almost be called the game plan for today’s socialists, some are completed others being pushed on society as you read this. Keep this in mind as you hear many politicians proudly claiming they are progressive. Then ask yourselves what are they progressing too?

Something else to keep in mind as Obamacare, the crown jewel of socialist dreams is implemented. It was sold to help the poor uninsured, and now it is no longer just to poor struggling to find affordable healthcare. Winston Churchill once said about socialism “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery..”
