The social network introduces Facebook Home for select smartphones (Photos)

After days of much anticipation the company introduced a game changer in the mobile industry. Mark Zuckerberg's company announced Thursday Facebook Home with deep integrations for the Android that bring a whole new cutting-edge social experience.

The largest social network offers its billions of users the ability to connect, interact and exchange a a genuine relationship on its platform. The concept of Facebook Home is to transform the experience on how we share and connect with other contacts we communicate on a daily basis.

''Today we're introducing Home - a new way to turn your Android phone into a great, living, social phone. We all want to share and connect. That's how we discover new information and build meaningful relationships. But today, phones are built around tasks and apps. To see what's happening with your friends, you pull out your phone and navigate through a series of separate apps,'' according to Facebook Newsroom.

Facebook Home is not a new Operating System (OS), but a software experience to run on Android devices. Also Facebook Home is going to be a family of apps that work seamlessly on a smartphone.

Home will be available in the United States (U.S) on April 12, 2013. Its schedule to arrive in other countries shortly after its initial launch.

On a sour note, Home will not be housed on Apple's revolutionary iPhone product line. According to a Cultofmac.com report the release was not possible for Apple's supposedly controlled environment. The report also explained that the Android platform was by far much more open in comparison to Apple's iOS.

On the other hand, it was also noted that Facebook's novel product is very invasive and would override the existing interface for the iPhone. Now there was acknowledgment made that both companies have a healthy and working relationship.

Below is a list of Android phones that will work with Home :

  • HTC First
  • HTC One (Future)
  • HTC One X
  • HTC One X+
  • Samsung GALAXY S III
  • Samsung GALAXY S4 (Future)
  • Samsung GALAXY Note II

AT&T will be offering the HTC First on sale April 12, 2013. Notable features as part of this new mobile experience, Home, will house these following features: Cover Feed, Chat Heads, and Notifications. Click here for more details on what the enhancements are for your Android device.

This certainly positions Facebook beyond a social networking platform, but undermines other competitors in the mobile sphere like Google and of course Apple. It will shift the balance of powers that existed previously and forces companies to push the envelope on innovation.
