The Small Business Expo, a free event for business owners, has been traveling the country with stops in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas, and will be making its way here on January 16, 2014 at the Miami Convention Center. The one day event features an exhibitor floor, seminars, and keynote speeches, as well as the opportunity to network with other locally and nationally owned companies. Considered the largest small business conference, the Expo focuses on giving small business owners the tools to succeed.
According to the Small Business Administration (SBA), 75% of all jobs in 2010 were created by small businesses. The America Express small business monitor found that 54% of small business owners plan to reinvest earnings back into the company. Though the small business sector continues to grow, there are numerous challenges. A recent study conducted by Staples, the largest office supply retailer, revealed that 47% of business owners can not explain basic accounting terms. With business owners getting younger, providing support for that segment is critical; 42% of younger business owners reported a lack of support from the local community where the small business is located. Another staggering statistic here in Miami is that almost 36% of businesses bounce a check, and 50% lack a cash flow system.
The Small Business Expo, along with other organizations, including the SBA, American Express, and Staples, seek to help small businesses thrive in the coming years. For more information about the Small Business Expo, or to register for the event, visit http://www.thesmallbusinessexpo.com/
