The SleepyPod pet carrier offers security, comfort, and portability

In recent years many pet carrier manufacturers have attempted to create comfortable and functional carriers for pets. No longer are pets relegated to hard plastic carriers without free airflow. Some pet carriers have soft-sides, some hard plastic with metal mesh grates offering more air to the animal inside. One, the SleepyPod offers security, comfort, portability and utility. Moreover, it comes in a variety of pleasing colors and two sizes, of which the small one can be used when traveling by air as it fits neatly under the seat.

Upon opening up the SleepyPod for investigation by my cats, I was surprised to see that they didn’t run in the opposite direction as they often do when seeing a cat carrier with the door open. Instead they went inside, rolled around, poked their heads out and dived inside again. Often I find them sleeping inside, comfortably curled up together. When it came time to enclose a cat inside for transport, there wasn’t any stress involved.  The cat merely lay down comfortably and enjoyed the ride.

The shape of the SleepyPod is bulky, sometimes difficult to carry over the shoulder with their shoulder strap, but it rests solidly on any surface and is easily secured in a seat belt when transporting your pet. The mesh top zips shut and the carry handle uses industrial strength Velcro fasteners. The sides and base are constructed of foam, surrounded by a plush interior and hardy, but soft, ballistic nylon (luggage grade) exterior. The interior plush can be removed for easy washing.

The regular sized SleepyPod can carry up to a 15 pound pet and the Mini SleepyPod can carry up to a 7 pound pet.
SleepyPods have several really neat accessories: A warming pad which plugs into any AC outlet to pre-heat the carrier for those discerning cats who prefer their beds warm, or if you are planning on transporting your pet on a cold day this can avoid your pet getting chilled when outdoors. On hot days, their optional Air-mesh bed offers hammock-like comfort and air circulation to keep your pet cool. Another accessory is the Cloudpuff, a blanket that is inserted into the SleepyPod for added padding and warmth.

Though somewhat pricey at $165 and anywhere from $29 to $59 for accessories, this product is well manufactured and lots of thought went into the design.
