Located in the historic Ferry Building on the Embarcadero, The Slanted Door boasts spectacular views
of the Bay Bridge. Award winning chef Charles Phan incorporates the stylishness of the modern San
Francisco Bistro with an authentic Vietnamese menu using fresh and flavorful ingredients. A modern
sleek look, the subtle water theme and organic elements that go into the design of the restaurant
perfectly reflect chef Phan’s food.

Why:

  • Acclaimed chef Charles Phan relies on local and organic ingredients to fuse with Vietnamese cuisine
  • Gorgeous San Francisco Bay view and public transportation hub
  • 2010 Zagat Top Spot, 2009 San Francisco Chronicle Top 100 Restaurant, 2010 James BeardFoundation Outstanding Chef Award

The Slanted Door is a contemporary Vietnamese restaurant that boasts the plethora of produce,
ecologically farmed meat, game and poultry found locally in the San Francisco Bay Area. Floor to ceiling
windows showcase sweeping San Francisco Bay views, with a spectacular view of the Bay Bridge and a
heated patio for cool nights. The Slanted Door not only seizes rave reviews from the critics, including a
Zagat Top Spot, but has one terrific location in the historic Ferry Building. Food is served family style in
a relaxed congenial environment. Hip staffers are informative and provide excellent service. Scents of
garlic, chili, and herbs wafts from the open kitchen. The subtle water theme and organic qualities of the
materials were chosen carefully by restaurant designer Olle Lundberg in an effort to reflect chef Charles
Phan’s food.

Executive chef Charles Phan’s childhood food and life experiences in Vietnam shape much of what the
Slanted Door is today. Ingredients are bought fresh daily. Simple elements like the fish sauce are prized
and perfected. Chef Phan recreates the richness of Vietnamese street food and enhances it with the
freshest ingredients, western style service, beverages, and desserts.

Don’t be intimidated by their extensive wine list. The wine list is focused to what works with the
flavors of the food. In constant evolution, the list helps to pair wine with dishes and flavors. Come in
for afternoon tea everyday from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm and choose from an assortment of hand picked
Chinese teas and delicious appetizers like fresh sea food from the raw bar or noodles with lemon grass
pork. Renowned dinner specials include Shaking Beef stir-fried with garlic and organic onions or Wood-
Oven roasted whole fish with spicy ginger fish sauce.

What people are saying:

“When I first came to the Slanted Door was when my love of food was really sparked. Service is always great and the interior is a notch above what most Asian fusion places are, aided of course by the fantastic view of the
Bay.” – Elite Yelp Reviewer Steph C., San Mateo, CA

“The Slanted Door is dang good. They use nothing but fresh, high quality, organic and/or grass-fed ingredients
here. We came just before noon on a Saturday after taking a walk through the Ferry Plaza Farmers
Market and while there was a line out the door, the line moved fast and we were seated within 5-10
minutes.” – Elite Yelp Reviewer Daniel B., San Francisco CA.

“Top notch restaurant!! Dining here is an absolute must. The breathtaking view outside of the Bay just
makes it an impeccable experience. You don't even have to compromise the quality of the food or the
service to enjoy this SF restaurant.” – Elite Yelp Reviewer Joy A., Daily City
