The rink is home to the South Bay Figure Skating Club and Loyola Marymount University Hockey Team. U.S. Figure Skating's Learn to Skate Program and hockey classes are offered to all ages and levels. So why ice skate?
Ice skating is a full body workout that utilizes core muscles in order to develop power and strength. Long a favorite at the Winter Olympics, ice skating is a sport that combines grace and power with artistry and athleticism. An hour of continuous skating will challenge every muscle in your body and burn up to 350 calories. Add a few jumps and spins and you could burn up to 600 calories during a one hour session. What’s more is that ice skating enables you to incorporate your own style and show off those qualities that make you unique!
Like many recreational and competitive sports, ice skating allows you to discover who you are and how you react in specific mentally and physically challenging circumstances. The sport will test and improve your character – be it building your confidence or empowering you as you accomplish the landing of your first jump or simply mastering the skill of skating forward, effortlessly across the ice.
However, unlike learning to ride a bike, ice skating requires a commitment that requires consistent practice in order to improve in skill. The Skating Edge offers beginner group packages and private instruction to all ages. Public skating sessions are available and a great way to engage the entire family in a fun and active outing. Visit www.theskatingedge.com for class registration and public skating information. See you on the ice!
