NBC will be travelling to four cities across the country this September in search of contestants for a new singing competition television series. How will this show be different from American Idol? NBC is going to be looking for a capella singing groups. That means no backup bands. Just pure singing.
From NBC: A capella music has been the basis and inspiration for many top musical acts on the charts from Motown to Boyz to Men. Recently it has been the focus of national tournaments and exploded in popularity on college campuses all over the country. With a strong fan base and largely untapped talent pool, it has never been the center of a musical competition until now.
The auditions are being held in New York, NY, Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA and Los Angeles, CA during September. The details for the New York City auditions are:
NEW YORK, NY
Saturday September 12

This should be a very interesting experiment. Will the public enjoy listening to singers without back-up music, especially before they've eliminated those that are not the best?
