The sinful Christian/conservative, and the intolerant progressive

See also

Look all around you. We are in the midst of a culture war. Our great nation, the United States of America, is divided like never before. And though classical Catholic thought has embraced both liberal and conservative thinking, while remaining traditional and orthodox, today's social divide between liberal (now known as progressive) and conservative is wider, and wilder, than ever.

It is bomb throwing, it is deadly, and it is destroying our nation.

"David had inquiries made about the woman and was told, 'She is Bathsheba, daughter of Eliam, and wife of Joab’s armor bearer Uriah the Hittite.' Then David sent messengers and took her. When she came to him, he had relations with her." 2 Samuel 11:1-10, 13-17

First, let's make something perfectly clear. The most traditional, faith-filled, conservative, orthodox--whatever you would like to call them--Catholic, sins! And the sins of the self-professed traditionalist, or conservative, or whatever, are truly embarrassing. Whether in priestly pedophilia, or a Protestant pastor's adultery, the sin of the disciple of Jesus is appropriately scandalous.

With that said, the progressive hurls his, or her, hate bombs.

Last night, conservative author Dinesh D'Souza debated progressive professor Bill Ayers on a number of pertinent topics. Dinesh D'Souza was questioned by an audience member about things he had purportedly done 30 years ago as a college sophomore at Dartmouth, as an editor of a college publication, regarding comments toward gay students. Mr. D'Souza revealed this as a doctored legend with ease--since there was no proof other than 'hearsay' produced 30 years later by a progressive blog site.

But what was truly revelational about the situation was the Inquisition which followed concerning Mr. D'Souza's Christian beliefs concerning homosexuality. Since they could not nail him to the cross for legitimate sins, they decided to nail him to the cross for his beliefs.

And that's the crux of progressive intolerance.

"Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness;
in the greatness of your compassion wipe out my offense.
Thoroughly wash me from my guilt
and of my sin cleanse me
." Psalm 51:3-7, 10-11

Basically, the difference between a Christian/conservative and a progressive is Jesus Christ!

The progressive, like Bill Ayers, sees his LITERAL bomb throwing, in bombing the Pentagon--and literally killing fellow American citizens--as an expression of his search for justice. He, or she, doesn't see killing (think abortion, euthanasia, drone kills) as sinful. Why would they? They don't have the Christ, nor do they have His Spirit of repentance, true forgiveness, and non-political/non-utilitarian compassion.

The Christian/conservative, on the other hand, has a world perspective shaped by the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. Understanding human weakness in original sin, realizing the challenge of temptation and human weakness (concupiscence), the Christian embraces--through faith--God's Loving grace, which changes them, daily, in repentance, prayer, sacrament, and charity, into a compassionate, forgiving, and Truth sharing, saint.

Faith shapes the Christian in the 'conservatism' of what's good. Unbelief, and a reliance on this passing world, shapes progressive angst. Though both sin, the former repents, while the latter, enslaved in their ideology, wages an unrelenting, unholy war.

Intolerance is truly the toleration of everything except Christianity.

"Jesus said to the crowds: 'This is how it is with the Kingdom of God; it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land...It is like a mustard seed that..." Mark 4:26-34

But why are progressives intolerant of Christians?

First, Christians keep spreading the gospel seed regardless of the PC agenda. Those pesky Christians keep evangelizing, they keep sharing the Truth--how dare they claim Truth!--about a dead guy from two thousand years ago. What makes matters worse, if we kill them, or kill their unborn babies, it is like a seed.

Some 18 odd centuries ago Tertullian said: "The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church."

Secondly, progressives measure men and women solely by productivity, by external beauty, by ideological passivity, and by intellectual prowess, but never in 'the image and likeness of God.' Subsequently, mustard seeds like unborn babies, developmentally disabled people, the elderly, the celibate nun, or the faithful/traditional priest, shock them when the mustard seed is loved, valued, respected, and protected by ordinary bible carrying (sometimes gun toting), simple folk.

And when you mess with the mustard seed, you cultivate the giant shrub of traditional renewal.

Agree, or disagree?
