In such an over-saturated market, local bands can experience difficulty drawing crowds that consist of more than the obligated group of friends. The Silent Comedy, however, so thoroughly excels at attracting new fans that a single night of foot-stomp’n folk just isn’t enough to accommodate. Their communal approach to music (often times they share an already over-crowded stage with guest musicians and pals) makes the barrier between band and fan near invisible. The honest talent behind their eclectic instrumentation and un-San Diego southern-like soul instantly creates long lasting interest with listeners and a resounding anticipation for more.
Having not released new music since 2008’s self-titled ep, The Silent Comedy’s live shows fall victim to a limited supply of material and predictable set-listing. They play with such fun ferocity, though, that longtime fans can’t help but embrace the familiarity and join in as a self-appointed choir. These gents, who may or may not be responsible for the over-popular ‘stache and vest trend, could literally knack about a handful of kitchen utensils and still get crowds’a frenzied. The Silent Comedy doesn’t cater to wallflowers, so gig goers should flask some moonshine and ready themselves for a sweaty dance revival.
Transfer, as promotional listings indicate, is set to co-headline this two nighter. A local favorite in their own right, Transfer plays a more traditional and polished indie set, usually backed by customized visual effects. Both bands will be plugging into The Casbah on Wednesday, March 10th and Thursday the 11th. It’s a safe assumption these 21+ shows will sell out, so it might be worth shelling out a few extra for online service fees, in addition to the $15 cover, to avoid being turned away at the door.
Going to one or both (yeah dedication!) shows will no doubt be entertaining times for all, leaving attendees happily exhausted and excited to proclaim The Silent Comedy’s climactic lyrical mantra “I am alright, I am alright, I’m doin’ just fine!” to just about anyone who will listen.
