The silence of the Baltimore politicians at National Night Out

Every year around this time we have something called "National Night Out" in many neighborhoods in Baltimore. Citizens are supposed to leave their front lights on and gather in the streets to socialize and get to know one another. It is a productive way of keeping the bad element off the streets for at least one night. Many neighborhoods have barbecues, food, bands, and children-oriented events. In years where we have a local election like 2007, all the local politicians and candidates show up in large numbers. The events are larger and better publicized by the bureaucracy.

2009 is not an election year so in Reservoir Hill we received little advance notice that we were having a celebration this past Tuesday. Instead of two celebrations like we had in 2007, there was only one celebration on Callow Avenue. I visited the event on Callow two times and I did not see one politician or any candidates from previous elections.

Politicians always love to mention how active they are in the community. What they should really say is that they are active in the community during election years.

Jack Young showed up at most of his National Night Out events. He can always be seen in the community and at events especially at Youth Events.

Some of those showed up because they know they are in trouble this next election. Especially some of those from the 41st both state and city. My national night is has been changed to Smith & Wesson Night Out. Betcha no crime takes place during that time does it. How many of those that showed up had body guards running up their butts. Time to clean house of indifferent people who take our votes for granted.
