The significance of forty days: What are things that control you?

One thing that all of us is being controlled by guilt. We retrospect the past about the hurts that gave us. It can be a taunting relationship, job that you work hard and lost it because of the people around you. The children whom you love so much suddenly disrespect you because of divorce.

The hard part, we never forgive ourselves. To some people, forgiveness is a sign of weakness. It is not. When we forgive, the wounds that we had in the past are healed and move on.

People are so hard on themselves. Unable to focus on something because they are still haunted of the past. It is hard to move on. Now, we can see depression, anxiety, mental illness, bitterness and hardness of the heart because of the things of the past.

When will we ever forget the person that bullied us during our elementary and high school days? First, we have to forgive ourselves in order to clear the heart and mind and ask God to heal us.

One thing for sure, there must be someone who can help us to alleviate all of this problem, and that is God.

When was the last time you communicate with him? We only need him when we are in trouble but when things are rosy and dandy, we just forget about the one who created us that needs our attention.

He can turn bad things into good things … we have Moses, a murderer, who turns into a prophet and leads his people to emancipation from the oppression that pharaoh inflicted to them. And Gideon, turns from cowardice to fortitude.

If we can only embrace the cross of Jesus, who freed us from our sin, then we may see peaceful and loving people. However, to others, hate and maltreatment that they received in the past, want to inflict pain to others instead of forgiving themselves to acknowledge that peace and love.

To parents, they have big expectations to their kids to get excellent grades, decent manners, finish school, etc. However, these things give fear to them and in turn will give a negative effect. When the kids are pressured the effect could be devastating. Tough love is good when the handle properly.

The adrenaline is working when we excite ourselves about the material things that we acquire. We never stop creating things to build our own empire. More money is pumping-in to our bank account, regardless of the people whom we hurt in order to get what we want. Vicious attitude is the name of the game as the current trend.

Most of the people are afraid to lose their wealth. Some of them cannot afford it and commit suicide. That is the sad part of it.

The Bible says: “Well-formed love banishes fear. Since fear crippling, a fearful life – fear of death, fear of judgment—is one not yet fully formed in love.”

God exists because of its purpose. Without God, there is no meaning in life and without purpose, life is nothing. Both God and humans are connected together in order to accomplish that purpose.

“The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder—a waif, a nothing, a no man.” Thomas Carlyle
