I spent the last 6 months attending almost every performance of a wonderful stage show "rockumentary" called JUST IMAGINE(http://www.justimaginetheshow.com/) which was at the time ending it's long successful run at the Hayworth Theater on Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles. Unlike a lot of Beatles fans who had been attending this show before me I came late to this experience. How could I have not seen this show before? Where was I? Thank the universe for my girlfriend Camille. She graciously treated me to this show as a birthday present.
After my initial baptism of Just Imagine I began to attend the shows with my camera in tow. I am first and foremost a photographer (http://flic.kr/ps/2EKpGL). When I began to share my photos of the show with the cast we became fast friends. Tim Piper, the star of Just Imagine and I began to talk and it was suggested to me that I might be a good fit for his "team". I was honored to be considered and so rightfully, I accepted. Fast forward to the approach of the last two performance of the show and I was officially asked to be a part of the Tim Piper team involved in recording Tim's newly composed song to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Beatles first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. WOW...I screamed to myself in my head. Of course I played it very cool and rolled with it.
The recording experience of "The Shot Heard Round The World" took place over several days in three different locations. Two of those were here in L.A. while one background track was recorded in New York. My role in this project has been to video record "footage" for the "making of..." and to shoot stills for publicity purposes. During the first day of recording I was thrilled to learn that one of my photos was selected as the "Cover Art" for the single. Still amazed by this honor and frankly by this whole experience.
Now about the song. Lyrically Tim takes us back to that seminal time of Feb 9 1964 when the Beatles made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, what is now considered a pivotal moment in our popular culture. The nation was just a few months removed from the assassination of our beloved President Kennedy. Our country was grieving. Tim captures the SHOT of joyful music those lads from Liverpool brought to these shores. And in this song Mr Piper takes us on a magical history tour through their last performance together on the rooftops of Apple Records. Musically "The Shot" sounds familiar yet fresh. It has the feel of those songs from the fab four. With a great back beat and driving bass and guitar "The Shot" is a guaranteed crowd pleaser that is sure to become a Beatles fan favorite and beyond.
Listen for yourself and buy the song directly from the site. http://www.timpipermusic.com and tell them Sal sent you. Peace and Love!
