Irony is when the man who formerly played a Los Angeles cop gets arrested by a real Los Angeles cop. That is what happened to Michael Jace who previously starred on FX hit "The Shield" according to a CNN report on Tuesday. Jace is accused of shooting his wife April in the face during an argument in their home on Monday evening.
April Jace was found dead inside the family home in the Hyde Park area of south Los Angeles by LAPD officers. Her husband Michael called 911 to report that April had been shot while his neighbors also called emergency services to report gunshots in the Jace home. Police believe Michael Jace to be the shooter as a result of an argument gone wrong and he is currently in custody.
The couple's two children were home at the time of the shooting. Police believe the incident is an escalation of domestic violence. Detective Sal LaBarbera told KNBC-TV that Michael Jace is the suspect and no others were being considered. Early reports of the disturbing incident claim that Michael and April Jace were arguing about finances as the two had been facing money problems in recent years.
Jace reportedly filed a chapter 13 bankruptcy where he claimed to have an $80,000 annual income with half a million in debt. The bankruptcy case was voluntarily dismissed back in December and Michael fell behind on mortgage payments again according to TMZ.
Michael Jace appeared on 89 episodes of "The Shield" as LAPD officer Julien Lowe from 2002-2008. That was his biggest role and afterward he appeared on shows like "Private Practice" and "The Mentalist" with bit parts but he was unable to secure recurring roles.
April and Michael Jace were married in 2003 and have two children together. Michael was previously married to Jennifer Bitterman.
