Fans of the blockbuster movie "The Shawshank Redemption" will not want to miss the 1994 film's 20th anniversary celebration weekend event being held on Friday, August 29, Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31 in the Mansfield, Ohio area (where 95% of the movie was filmed on location).

A Bit About "The Shawshank Redemption" Based on a Stephen King novella, "The Shawshank Redemption" stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman as two convicted murderers who form a friendship while incarcerated at Shawshank State Prison. Robbins' character, Andy Dufresne, is actually innocent of the crime for which he has been convicted (killing his wife and her lover). The film was nominated for 7 Academy Awards including Best Actor (Freeman) and Best Picture.

Standing in for Shawshank State Prison was the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio. Other major scenes were shot at Malabar Farm State Park including the opening scene of the movie which was shot at Malabar Farm's Pugh Cabin. Scenes were also shot in Ashland and Upper Sandusky.

Among some of the activities that visitors can enjoy at the celebration include a cocktail party held at the Ohio State Reformatory, a 2-day bus tour of 13 of "Shawshank's" filming locations (including the Shawshank Oak Tree where "Red" found the gift from "Andy") and a gathering at Pugh Cabin where visitors can meet actor Scott Mann who played Andy's wife's lover and actress Renee Blaine who played Linda Dufresne. Actor James Kisicki who played the bank manager in the film will be making a free appearance and signing autographs at the Crosby Advisory Group LLC in Ashland (also one of the movie's filming locations).

There will also be a showing of a restored version of the film at the Renaissance Theater (138 Park Avenue West in Mansfield) where the "The Shawshank Redemption" made it debut in 1994. Admission to the movie is $10.

In addition, visitors can attend a talk at the "Church at Shawshank" (being held at the Ohio State Reformatory) being given by Kary Oberbrunner, an international author, coach and speaker, who will explore the dialogue and Scripture found in the movie.
