The Sharks rally past the Coyotes, 5-3, to remain undefeated (Photos)

The San Jose Sharks rallied from a 3-1 third period deficit to defeat the Phoenix Coyotes, 5-3, Thursday night in their home-opener at the HP Pavilion.

Patrick Marleau scored the game-winner off great transition passes from Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski at 18:07 of the third period.

Big Joe Thornton added an empty-netter with :03 seconds left for the final tally.

Logan Couture scored first on a power play goal to put he Sharks up 1-0 but the Coyotes added their own power play goal to knot it up at 1-1.

After taking a 3-1 lead early in the third period, the Coyotes were overrun by the Sharks, allowing four unanswered goals.

“The guys that got us over the hump are guys we count on and they came through,” head coach Todd McLellan said.

“So far we’ve found goals from different sources and have come from behind in two of out three wins, so that’s good.”

Sharks’ goalie Antti Niemi had 32 saves and Jason LaBarbera stopped 30 shots for the Coyotes.

Patrick Marleau scored two goals and added one assist while Captain Joe Thornton had a goal and three assists.

Next up for the 3-0 Sharks is a 1:00 p.m. Saturday game against the Colorado Avalanche at the Shark Tank.
