The secret is out: Secret menu items are no longer a secret (Photos)

CNBC reported on April 6, 2013 that your favorite fast food restaurants all have “secret menus” for insiders.

These days’ restaurants are selling more and more off the menu items for customers in the know.

On the other hand, some of the restaurants are also showcasing their “secret menu” on their websites, making it no longer a secret.

Restaurants such as Panera Bread and BurgerFi wants to speed up the process for their complicated orders and cater to those with dietary needs.

The main reason for “secret menu” is for marketing purposes so customers can feel as they are the insiders in the know, and who will want to share the “secret menus” with their friends.

BurgerFi is a Florida based all-natural burger chain with over 35 locations across the states.

The director of BurgerFi Chris Ponzio said, “we do not want to overburden our digital menu boards by putting everything on there because simplicity and ease of ordering is probably the most important thing in this business.”

BurgerFi has intentionally spilled their “secret menu” since its first store opened in 2011 by featuring it in their in-store menu handouts, but not on the big board itself.

The “secret menus” created by frequent customers who want things alternated from the original menu items.

Some companies have added the “secret menus” to their internal payment system to help employees ring up the menu items.

Here are some of your favorite “secret menus” items: McDonalds Mc 10:35 which is a McDouble and an Egg McMuffin, Chipotle the Quesarito is a cheese quesadilla wrapped around a burrito and can set a customer back 1,000 calories.

Panera Bread Power Steak Lettuce Wrap, Power Chicken Hummus Bowl, In-N-Out Burger has a 4x4 cheeseburger which consist of four burger patties and four slices of cheese.

Starbucks Cap’n Crunch Berries Frappuccino is strawberries, creme Frappuccino with hazelnut syrup.

Panera Bread hidden menu as they like to refer to it debuted in January. They consist of “power foods” which have leaned proteins, complex carbohydrates and veggies.

Panera Bread uses their menu to cater their customers diet needs such as low-carbohydrate or gluten free.

In-N-Out Burger was the first pioneer of the not-so-secret menu on a large scale by a fast-food chain.

In-N-Out Burger company’s vice president of planning and development Carl Van Fleet said “they do not see themselves as having a “secret menu” but rather just the willingness to fulfill orders just the way the customers want it.

Buyer beware most of the "secret menu" items are loaded with extra calories.
