Exodus 15:25 “And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree which he cast into the waters, and the waters were made sweet...”
Poor Moses. These people are wearing him out. He cried out... but he didn’t cry out to the sky or at the people or even at some wise leaders he may have had with him. It was to the Lord, who seemed to quietly show him what to do. Sometimes things that aren’t emergencies, but more important than urgent, get to us anyway. When thirsty people are murmuring and complaining and blaming Moses, it seems urgent and it breaks down his normally dignified appearance.
The Lord, whispered in his ear that there was a stick he could throw in the water so that it would be sweet. So Moses threw the stick in. The water wasn’t full of chemicals to purify it like city water is, it wasn’t even clear like most well water. It was sweet.
The people were happy. Moses was happy. God had further things to say but that’s for a later time.
If we want sweetness on the inside, then we need to cry out to our Lord. He has a secret for us to turn our bitterness to sweetness. All our friends with needy hearts murmuring can be met with a spring of sweet water flowing from within us.
There are times when God goes above and beyond to show His care. He becomes a little extravagant. That shows us that when we love we need to go above and beyond. If there’s a chance to show some extra grace it would be like our Savior for us to give it.
