The second round of the Orlandobands.com/Evermore Sound Evermore Battle of the Bands kicks off Tuesday at The Haven in Orlando. This week’s battle features live music from Orlando bands Brothers of Alien Rock, Hotel Hurry, Tears of a Tyrant and Akazia with Central Florida bands Southside Junction Band and Escape Tonight. “We are looking forward to hearing all the unique sounds Orlando’s music scene has to offer,” said the members of Orlando band Hotel Hurry. “We enjoy the energy Battle of the Bands shows bring.”
“We’re most looking forward to solidifying our stamp on the scene, not only through our music, but also by way of connecting with the four dozen other bands and fans involved in this epic event,” said the members of Orlando band Brothers of Alien Rock. “If you look at the cross section of styles and raw talent that are represented in this battle, it really gives you a great sense of what diversity Orlando’s music scene has to offer.”
The bands are competing for over $25,000 in prizes, including a custom built guitar and various recording packages. The sponsors of this year’s Evermore Battle of the Bands are Evermore Sound, Orlandobands.com, Capacity Productions, Freedom Union Records, Classic Cases, InEarz Audio, Rejuven-Ink, Spawn Guitars, Left Digital Media, Goin Balistic!, 101.1 WJRR’s Native Noise with Supa Dave and The Orlando Local Music Examiner. “Orlandobands.com does a great job of connecting bands with other musicians and sponsors from all over Central Florida,” said the members of Hotel Hurry.
“I am consistently blown away by how involved Ben Gardner and his organization are within the scene,” said the members of Brothers of Alien Rock. “They offer shows, marketing and press kit opportunities, great promo, music biz education, etc that gives bands on any level the lift they really need to move forward. Orlandobands.com has in some way been in touch with every part of how this local scene breathes and grows. Much love and respect in all that they do for the bands and this scene.”
The members of Brothers of Alien Rock also had this to say about event sponsor Supa Dave and his radio show, WJRR’s Native Noise. “We have only dealt with Supa Dave and WJRR. Dave is super passionate about the scene and in my opinion, is sort of like the Matt Pinnfield of CFL. Not just because of his shaved bald head, (haha love ya Supa!) but for his knowledge of all things rock and what’s important to all of us here in OTown. Dave gives the bands that need to be heard a chance on a major radio station and always follows through on what he says, which can be rare in the music biz, and we really admire him for that.”
The bands will be judged on several categories including musicianship, songwriting, originality, crowd reaction, stage presence and professionalism, as well as promotion and networking.
The Evermore Battle of the Bands shows are taking place at The Haven, 6700 Aloma Ave. in Winter Park/Orlando. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. with the first band. For these special events The Haven will be a non-smoking venue. Tickets are $5 in advance from the bands. (Their pre-sale tickets count as part of their score.) Tickets will be $8 at the door for this 16+ event. Just as with the past battles, they will be collecting donations for charity. The money collected this year will go to the Southeast Lung Transplant Fund, helping to support HelpHOPELive.
