Shad and crappie anglers get ready. The second annual Central Florida Shad and Crappie Derby starts January 1, 2011 courtesy of Coastal Angler Magazine Orlando, Fishing Florida Radio and other fine sponsors.
Anglers wishing to participate in the free two month long fishing derby need to register at any of the derby sponsor locations. A complete list of sponsor locations can be found at http://www.cfshadderby.com/register.html.
The derby uses a catch, photograph and release (CPR) format. Anglers may enter a potential prize winning catch by uploading a photograph of the fish to www.cfshadderby.com. The photograph must show the fish measured on the official measuring device, and the photo must also include the official derby token. The official measuring device and token are provided at registration.
The longest crappie and shad in each of five categories wins. The categories are fly fishing, conventional tackle, youth (15 years old and under), ladies and pro angler.
For more information including a complete set of rules, prizes and more visit the derby website at www.cfshadderby.com.

I hope I can participate this year. I registered last year but never got to fish. Looking forward to it.
