Clutch, handbag, hand held purse, wristlet, pocketbook whatever you call it, we can't leave home without it. I don't know if a clutch would fall under the heading of an accessory. More like necessity. This Spring you will see them everywhere. Especially since the fashion trend is knitted bags.
The colors range from neutrals for business to this seasons color trend, particularily orange. The size of the clutch varies from large to tiny. A large clutch will hold your phone, iPad, wallet and lipstick. Tiny is fun for just the right event.
The right clutch, just like the right shoe, can make almost any outfit pop. A bit of dramatic style or color and you're on your way to being noticed. Bring out your personality and individualize one of the knitted or crocheted bag patterns below, or design your own. If you prefer a handle, think Chanel and design a chain into your bag. Chains will be popular for spring.
Following are free patternsto knit/crochet/felt and needlepoint a clutch of your own. Photos of the clutches below are shown in the slideshow to the right.
Here is a selection of two clutch patterns that are felted: Jen Heffer's Waves of grain clutch will have you looking for just the button that shouts "my style". Jean's felted clutch by Lion Brand has a one skein beginners purse and clutch.
Crochet Sarah's Sweetheart black evening clutch with lining.
Knit the Sundance Make Up Bag by Joëlle Meier Rioux. The knitted makeup bag is too adorable to be hidden away in a larger handbag. The "clutch" took only one ball of yarn. Or try a design by Token. Her Sophie's Purse is a vintage knit with flower and button center. Craftster has gone green. Recycle your plastic shopping bags to create this knitted beauty with plarn, a Spring green clutch.
Here is a Laura's Loop: New Year's needlepoint clutch at Purlbee. This bag is a classic design.
Melissa Leapman has a video tutorial on the left that will show you how to knit a Basketweave purse.
A clutch only requires a skein of yarn and is quick to create. So, if handbags are your obsession, this is your season. Think local when buying yarn.
