The infamous “Black Monday” in NFL sports came went, but not before it paid a visit to the Washington Redskin. Mike Shanahan receives the news that he will not be back for another year as head coach. Redskin owner Daniel Snyder along with General Manger Bruce Allen fired Shanahan and over half the coaching staff on Monday morning. This past season record of 3 – 13 and the deactivation of fans and the owner’s favorite new quarterback RG3 (Robert Griffin) made it a less than difficult decision for ending the coach’s contract.
Snyder is now on the search for the team’s eighth coach since his purchase of the Redskins for over fifteen seasons. Plus, the ongoing pressure to change the teams name to a more politically correct mascot, most at Redskins Park is ready to see 2013 end and welcome a new year of new beginning for this franchise.
Daniel Synder and Bruce Allen has a long list of potential replacements for Shanahan. Here are some of the possible contenders:
- Lovie Smith
- Bill Cowher
- Russ Grimm
- Todd Bowles
- Kevin Sumlin
- David Shaw
- Jon Gruden
- Hue Jackson
- Ken Whisenhunt
- Art Briles
