We continue considering the various comments made by Oleg Dei who is the founder, president and publisher of the Science Club of Long Island. While the club claims to be about science, it is an anti-Christian support group and, apparently, Dei’s job description also includes, as he puts it, “I eat stupid dumb*** Christians for lunch!” (expletive removed).
His comments came about due to the essay Science Club of Long Island (which was originally posted at the blog Atheism is Dead which is one of the website True Freethinker’s predecessors).
Oleg Dei continues his exposition of the Bible:
Expose Her Breasts!
"Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame. And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make the vile, and will set thee as gazingstock." (Nahum 3:5-6).Is your wife going to act like a slut and expose her breasts?
Farting
Wherefore my bowels shall sound like a harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kirharesh. (Isaiah 16:11)Are you going to fart to please your lord?
Considering that the question posed is “Is your wife going to act like a slut and expose her breasts?” we had better determine who, in the text, are the “thee…thy” because Oleg Dei seems to be taking this as some sort of commandment of YHVH to women (perhaps, all women in general).
The issue here is the same as in the cases above: the pseudo-skeptic merely assumes and runs with his assumptions. However, we will stop and ask who is the “thee” in the text who YHVH will expose to the nations and kingdoms?
Nahum ch. 1 notes that “The LORD has commanded concerning you” that “I will cut off the graven image and the molten image out of the house of your gods.” Now, Oleg Dei does not condemn Gentile-Pagans and thus, may not be aware of that which their idolatry entailed. It entailed a wide variety of practices such as human/child sacrifice, temple prostitution, bestiality and various other unmentionables. Moreover, 3:19 rhetorically asks, “upon whom has your wickedness not passed continually?”
Note that Nahum 2:8 notes that “Nineveh is like a pool of water…She is empty and void and waste.” This is one demonstration of the symbolic language within the text of Nahum. This is likening a city to a pool of water and introduces anthropomorphism. That is, within the text the city is referred to as possessing characteristics of a human being such as when we refer to a ship as “She,” etc. In fact, at the end of ch. 3 it states, “Your rulers are like the locusts, and your officials are a swarm of locusts” which is more evidence of symbolic language, of likening one thing with another for the sake of creating word pictures, for emphasis.
Nahum 3:1 states, “Woe to the bloody city! It is a lie, and full of plunder” and references, “the many harlotries of the well-favored harlot, the mistress of sorceries who sells nations by her harlotries, and families by her sorceries.” It is at this point, after having anthropomorphized the city and noted the practices in which she engages that we get to the text quoted by Oleg. Thus, clearly to “discover thy skirts” and “shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame” means that the abominable practices of that city will be evidenced and will become known widely.
Lesson to be learned is that 1) Oleg Dei knows not of what he speaks and if he does but made the point merely for the sake of propagandizing 2) first atheists complain that YHVH does nothing about evil and then, when they find out what He has done, is doing and will do, they complain about that as well.
Farting
Wherefore my bowels shall sound like a harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kirharesh. (Isaiah 16:11)Are you going to fart to please your lord?
Where, exactly, does the text make reference to the passing forth of gaseous emissions in order “to please your lord”? Nowhere at all, of course. This is simply another case of symbolism, of course. We may think of it as us having churning guts towards some situation.
Beginning with the first and second verses we find that “the lamb…shall be as a fleeing bird.” Later, we learn that “Moab shall howl for Moab, everyone shall howl. All of it shall howl” which means that a city, the city’s inhabitants, will howl. Thus, just as with our modern day language about “gut feelings” and such, the language of bowels sounding like a harp are symbolic of the proceeding forth of feeling from the deepest part of us. If you stated, “…from the bottom of my heart,” would Oleg Dei claim that you were referring to the literal circulation of blood?
The last statement Oleg makes is as follows:
Since you want to be a tough guy and pick on the Atheists let us show you how tough we can be. The Science Club of Long Island Inc. Publicly challenges you to prove the existence of God!
At stake one million dollars. Let us see how tough you really are?!
Well, just as soon as the money is in escrow we will consider the challenge.
