In September of last year, Brother International launched the new ScanNCut home and hobby cutting machine. It is the first of its kind to offer a built in scanner for creating unique designs and projects without the use of a computer or additional purchased cartridges. The ScanNCut machine was voted the #1 Hot Item at the Craft & Hobby Association Mega Show in Anaheim, California and was also given an Innovation & Design Award from an industry research firm, Envisioneering, at the 2014 Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Like other hobby cutting machines, the ScanNCut can cut a variety of papers and card stock. It swoops ahead of the competition by adding the ability to cut intricate designs onto almost any substrate, including paper, vinyl, fabric, tissue paper, wood veneer paper, leather, canvas, plastic and cellophane, among many others.

Depending on the model, there are 600 to 840 built in designs, including at least 100 patterns just for quilting. It can even draw seam allowances on quilt pieces for easier sewing. Create appliques with your own drawings and then change the size with the color LCD touch screen display. Use it with your embroidery machine to make fabric embroidered appliques without trimming. See many more of the capabilities here.
