The Winter Solstice is a time when the days are the shortest and the winter is long. It is a time of death and letting go. Winter's letting go is surrender to the simplicity that is death. It is a time of knowing and accepting that you can't take anything with you on your final journey. It is a time of finding a peace that “surpasses all understanding” and encourages us to accept that whatever is done is done and what is not …is not. It is a time of change from autumn to winter. Dark and light are complimentary.
Every New Year millions of people make resolutions to do things differently is search of something better. Solstice is an opportunity to spiritually and consciously begin anew; by acknowledging the ending of this year in a way that is meaningful and healing. Rituals of purification, death and release, songs and dance are dedicated to creating community. As we consciously bring balance and harmony into our lives, we cultivate these seeds of joy and peace and this over flows into the world.
