As you bask in the post Halloween bliss this upcoming weekend, put down the candy and get out of the house for one last spooky celebration. Pulling into town Saturday night at the Masquerade is the Mondo Zombie Boogaloo caravan led by the purveyors of hillbilly surf rock Southern Culture On The Skids (SCOTS) with cohorts Los Straitjackets and The Fleshtones joining in on the festivities. The three bands have joined forces to record a new album titled Mondo Zombie Boogaloo, loaded with a heaping helping of bad ass music from all of them.
The SCOTS are known for their live performances which are loaded with tunes that run the gamut of their musical career. From Rick’s vicious guitar playing to Mary’s smooooth bass work and Dave’s rapid fire drumming they create an atmosphere that involves the crowd just as much as it does them. Their music while anchored in hillbilly rock, infuses country, surf guitar, rockabilly and southern soul to create a sound that is all their own as they humorously sing about a plethora of Southern stereotypes such as mobile homes, banana pudding, dirt race tracks and fried chicken. Not only will you enjoy some great tunes but there is a good chance you may get hit with some flying fried chicken or a biscuit. Tha my friend is something you will only find at a SCOTS show.
Los Straitjackets have made a living off of surf guitar. Most of their music is instrumental and pulls from the school of Dick Dale, The Ventures and Duane Eddy. Their shows are loud and rowdy and a must see experience.
The Fleshtones are a classic garage rock band that have been dishing out tunes for quite some time. Mixing hard edge rock with smooth R&B rhythms their music pulls from rock-a-billy as much as it does punk rock. Live they play fast and furious keeping the crowd rocking.
This Saturday three great bands hit the stage at the Masquerade offering up one mighty fine night of music. Guitars will be at the forefront since all three bands play fast and loud. I highly suggest you check out this show you will enjoy it, and if you see me there, please say hi.
