The Rose Parade and gender identity

Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, Chevrolet, Macy's parade and The Tournament of Roses are pleasant family traditions . . . . but now a 'gay wedding' televised in our New Year's Day Rose Parade?

There's a time and place for everything; however, is the family-oriented Tournament of Roses Parade the place for a 'same-sex wedding'?

Is it a purposeful event or just an opportunity to 'put on a show' before a nationwide audience?

Many Americans are protesting the announcement of a gay wedding in our traditional New Year's Day Rose Parade, and many plan to boycott the event.

Robert Wilde states in his article, Protests Flare Against Rose Parade Same-Sex Marriage Float, on breitbart.com, ". . . the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Assn. has received complaints from people not in favor of using the Rose Bowl as a platform to proselytize for gay marriage. The Rose Bowl Facebook page received posts exhibiting anger, calling the wedding 'unbiblical' and 'highly offensive' One responder to Facebook said,'I can't think of many things LESS appropriate for families and especially children. It’s completely the wrong venue for a stunt like this.'"

In the article, Public display of affection – How open-minded are you?, HtkilBurn discusses 'public display of affection' regarding gays by emphasizing, "I don’t understand the homosexuals out there who feel as if being gay is about putting on a show. There is a rather foolish saying, ‘any publicity is good publicity.’ This is not true in homosexuality . . . . I get angry when I see gay men trying to prove a point, because unbeknown to them they are just making it harder for the rest of us, who just want to be seen as equal."

In Rose Parade Gay 'Marriage' Float Degrades Family Event, Say Conservative Activists, Penny Starr states, "According to news reports, about 700,000 will watch the parade live at the scene and about 45 million Americans will watch it on television, with an additional 25 million viewing internationally."

Starr quotes Brian Brown, president of the National Organization of Marriage, “It’s another ‘in your face’ example that should serve as a teachable moment for the American people.” “Once marriage is redefined to make it genderless, this perverse construct of ‘marriage’ is forced on everyone.”

What effect does 'public display of homosexuality' have on children?

Gender Identity and Gender Confusion In Children on healthychildren.org states, "Research demonstrates a role for both biological factors and social learning in gender-identity confusion," adding, "Family and parenting influences also might contribute to gender confusion."

James Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family, describes his concerns about gender identity in children in Dobson: Gay Marriage Rulings Confuse Children About Their Gender. Dobson believes that recent Supreme Court decisions recognizing legal marriages of gay and lesbian couples threaten the “entire superstructure” of society and will lead to children being confused about their gender. He states, “ . . . Because you can't have stability without a functioning marital relationship that leads to strong children who know who they are as a boy or a girl, or a man or a woman.”
