Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson really made a stir recently in an interview with Moviefone to promote his new move "Journey 2: Mysterious Island, when he teased a possible career in politics in the future. The pro wrestling star-turned-movie star went so far as to allude to making a future run for the Presidency of the United States.
“Right now the best way that I can impact the world is through entertainment. One day, and that day will come, I can impact the world through politics...The great news is that I am American, therefore I can become President.” - Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Moviefone.com
This sounds like a ridiculous provacative statement from an entertainer trying to get attention, but other pro wrestlers and actors have made successful runs for political office. Former WWE and WCW star Jesse Ventura shocked the politcal world when he won an election to become the Governor of Minnesota. Ronal Reagan who was President of the United States for two terms in the 1980s, had worked in movie and radio before his politcal career. Action movie icon Arnold Scharwzenaegger served as Governor of California. So it is not impossble to think of a future where the Rock could be called President Rock.
If the most electrifying man in Sports Entertainment became the President of the United States, his State of the Union addresses would become must-see television. President Barrack Obama has proven himself to be quite the eloquent speaker in office, but imagine if someone with the gift of gab like the Rock took the podium. The Rock cutting a promo about health care reform or balancing the budget would be both amazing and terrifying.
