The Rock views John Cena as the only other box office attraction in the WWE

Earlier this week, the WWE officially revealed that The Rock and John Cena will headline WrestleMania 29 for the WWE championship. This is a rematch from their epic encounter at WrestleMania 28, where The Rock defeated John Cena. Although many WWE critics and fans were somewhat disappointed with this rematch, The Rock feels differently. According to a February 27th report by IGN.com, Dwayne "The Roc" Johnson made the following comments about his WM 29 match against John Cena:

"The question was that if I was going to go back in the WWE, how could I go back and make the most impact? With who can I headline WrestleMania in that company and make the most impact? And the bottom line is that it continues to be John Cena. Just in terms of, and we'll use a Hollywood term here, box office appeal. Universal appeal. Athletic pairing. So there are a lot of reasons."

The Rock would also go on to say that he hopes this year's rematch will be a classic. Unfortunately, I have to disagree with The Rock. The WWE had a chance to listen to their fans by keeping CM Punk in the WWE title picture and placing him in a 3-way match against The Rock and John Cena for WM 29. Instead, they bump CM Punk to a match against The Undertaker and keep Cena vs. The Rock as a single's contest.

This decision is a slap in the face to many WWE fans because The Rock is scheduled to film a new movie after Mania, and will be leaving the country. Additionally, nobody really believes that The Rock will defeat Cena twice in a row at WrestleMania. It would be bad for business. As for CM Punk, other than his die-hard fans, nobody believes that he will defeat the Undertaker at WM 29. So, basically, the WWE decided to create two matches that will have predictable outcomes, which means that many fans will not be interested in seeing these matches. In other terms, it could negatively impact the WrestleMania 29 PPV buys.
