If you are in Spain or have a cruise to the Mediterranean, be sure to stop by and see the Rock of Gibraltar. The history is fantastic. And the view of the outlet to the sea is mind-blowing. It’s too far to see Africa, but when you think of all the ships that have traversed this area, it’s humbling.
When I was there, I actually jogged from the dock to the top and back. Maybe an hour + each way. It’s a nice uphill but is very hard to navigate the streets. There is no straight route. You have to zig zag through sloped residential streets and guess which was to go. Most take the tram to the top. I had to ask locals often for the way to the top. When you do get to the top – you will be greeted by monkeys who will climb all over you looking for treats…Don’t give them anything or they won’t go way.
30,000 people live there now. It’s a British entity, but Spain would like it. The rock itself is 1,400 ft high and it is loaded with tunnels both current and ancient.
