Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson has been a superhero in the ring of WWE but according to report yesterday, the proven action movie star is set to become a superhero in an upcoming DC Comics feature film. There is no clear details on who the former WWE Champion will be playing, but when asked by a fan on Twitter he said he would appear an upcoming superhero feature film.

Myself & DC have agreed on a character.. extremely complex, well known (but never played) and a pure BAD ASS MF;) #RockTalk .@ThomasEspin

MTV.COM’s Alex Zalben covered the story yesterday and the internet buzz with comic geeks and wrestling nerds about the Great One joining the DCU, and believes much speculation leads many to believe that Johnson will be the new Green Lantern. The specific incarnation of the Green Lantern character, would be John Stewart who was introduced in the ‘Justice League Unlimited’ animated series.

Pro Wrestling Examiner’s Perspective: DC and Warner Bros. are adopting the same connected story concepts that made the recent string of Marvel Comics films culminate in the box office blockbuster success of ‘the Avengers’. If Rock gets his own standalone feature as Green Lantern, he would have the extra pressure of ‘rebooting’ the character since the first attempt with Ryan Reynolds in 2011, was named one of the biggest flops of of the year by the Hollywood Reporter. Rock has a strong record with franchise films after getting added to the Fast & Furious series with the very successful ‘Fast Five’ and his starring role in the upcoming ‘Hercules’ due out in July. Check out the latest footage from 'Hercules' in the video posted with this article.
