For Tom Dotterer, getting shot in the eye pales in comparison to seeing CM Punk's historic title reign end at the hands of The Rock at this past Sunday's Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Dotterer, a baseball coach for the Christian Brothers Academy, was shot in the right eye at the North Salina Street liquor store in Syracuse during a robbery. Doctors have stated that he may never recover vision from it.
His story reached the now former WWE champion, CM Punk, due to local news station WSYR9. A reporter covering the story tweeted to Punk, advising him that Dotterer was more crestfallen with his loss than being shot. When Punk asked for proof, the reporter followed up with video, which can be seen here.
An avid wrestling fan, Dotterer stated that Punk's loss to The Rock was the "worst thing that happened all week." Punk soon tweeted praise for the coach, letting his followers on Twitter know that “Tom Dotterer is amazing. He’s got my respect. If he needs anything from me, let me know,"
WSYR has followed up on the story, stating that Punk has reached out for the man's address to send him some swag. More importantly for Dotterer, Punk gets a chance to win the WWE championship back at the WWE's next pay-per-view offering, Elimination Chamber.
