ABSTRACT
I will discuss the social intersectionality of dogs, cats, humans, and Tumblr and how these aspects together create the daily pinnacle of 10-minute Web entertainment. My theory is that humans, caught off-guard by a fairly new blogging platform (Tumblr) were drawn in-- First with the deviation of normal Internet obsession with cats to a new obsession with puppies combined with the passing Internet trend of hipster photos (see Hipster Handbook, Hipster Runoff, LATFH, Die Hipster, Stuff Hipsters Hate, etc.).
Thus, the Web site Hipster Puppies was born.
But was this good enough for the Internet community? No. Never. Our attention spans have been set to have ultra-bright 3G battery lives.
CAT THEORY
I propose that the hybrid trend of cats and the Internet, though definitely already reaching its communal peak, will in a sense never die. For this reason, we will find that many cat blogs arise to counter any other kind of blog--An example is Hipster Kitty. But as of late, dog+blogs seem to be having their 10 minutes of fame (that's 15 minutes in dog years).
One example of the dog/cat blog dichotomy are the sites Cute Boys with Cats and Cute Boys with Dogs. Clearly, this was a Web move meant to be ironic, somehow shoving hipsters into the background and illuminating "cute boys" (all we need now is the objectification of males with animals) in the foreground.
CONCLUSION
I am going to start a Tumblr. To be continued in my thesis (we are all looking forward to it now, aren't we?).
